                                 Sonoma County Fire District Fire Explorer Program                

The Sonoma County Fire Explorer post is actively seeking teenagers between the ages of 14 – 18 years of age who are interested in a future in the fire service. The Fire Explorer Program gives youths firsthand experience in what it takes both mentally and physically to be a professional firefighter. Participants receive fire service training under the supervision of trained firefighters.

What do Explorers do?

  • Train in all aspects of the fire service during Monday night training at different Sonoma County Fire District fire stations and other training locations.
  • Chance to participate in the annual California Fire Explorer Academy
  • Participate in community events
  • Participate in Explorer Ride-Along Program (program restricts specific activities that Explorers can perform on emergency scenes)
  • All required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and uniform shirts are provided

Requirements:

  • Attend two drills and then submit program application
  • Oral interview with Explorer Leadership and Advisors
  • Maintain 2.5 GPA
  • Purchase uniform pants, belt and boots
  • Comply with SCFD policies and Explorer program Rules of Conduct.
